eBay charges one final value fee when an item sells: 13.6% of the total sale for most categories, plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 on orders of $10 or less). The catch is the base: the percentage applies to the item price, the shipping you charge and the sales tax the buyer pays.

What eBay takes, line by line
How eBay fees are calculated
- total of the sale = (item price + shipping charged) × (1 + sales tax)
- final value fee = category rate × total (13.6% up to $7,500, 2.35% above, for most categories)
- per-order fee = $0.30 if the order is $10 or less, $0.40 above
- you receive = item price + shipping − fees
There are no separate payment processing fees: since eBay manages payments, the final value fee covers them. Insertion fees are free for the first 250 listings a month and $0.35 per listing after that (more free listings with an eBay Store). Promoted Listings, optional listing upgrades and eBay Store subscriptions cost extra and are not in the calculator.

eBay final value fee by category
On a $100 sale, no tax or shipping. Watches drop to 6.5% on the portion above $1,000; jewelry and handbags drop to 9% on the whole sale above $5,000 and $2,000; athletic shoes of $150 or more pay 8% with no per-order fee.

Fees that only some sellers pay
- International fee, 1.65% of the total when the buyer or the delivery address is outside the US and you don’t use eBay International Shipping.
- Below Standard, +6% of the total (7% after four months), and +5% in categories where your “item not as described” returns are Very High.
- Currency conversion, 3% for US sellers when eBay converts funds from a sale on another eBay site. eBay has announced this charge rises from October 14, 2026.

For most categories, 13.6% of the total sale (item, shipping and sales tax) up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order, or $0.30 on orders of $10 or less. On a $50 item with $8 shipping and 7% tax that is about $8.84.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The final value fee applies to the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping and handling you charge the buyer and the sales tax.
Does eBay charge fees on sales tax?
Yes. eBay collects and remits the sales tax, but the final value fee is calculated on the total including it.
Are there PayPal fees on eBay?
No. eBay manages payments itself and the final value fee replaces the old separate payment processing fee.
How much does it cost to list on eBay?
The first 250 listings each month have no insertion fee; after that it is $0.35 per listing in most categories, charged whether or not the item sells.
