Who Lemon Squeezy suits
Solo founders and small teams selling software, templates, courses or other digital products to consumers worldwide who want someone else to be the seller of record and deal with VAT and sales tax.
On the calculator's two reference payments, Lemon Squeezy takes 5.96% of $5,000.00 from a US client to a Spanish business, and 7.48% of €1,000.00 between Germany and Spain, where there is no currency to convert.
What to watch out for
- The headline rate rises for buyers outside the US, and payouts to a bank outside the US carry their own fee. For a European seller with European buyers, the effective rate ends up well above the headline.
- A merchant of record usually only accepts digital products; services and consulting are generally out.
- It is the seller in the customer's eyes, so its name and terms appear at checkout.
How to pay less with Lemon Squeezy
- Compare it with Paddle on your real buyer mix: for non-US buyers the surcharge can make the difference.
- If most of your sales are business-to-business, a processor plus reverse-charge VAT may be simpler and cheaper.
- Price in round local amounts so the fixed fee weighs less on each sale.
