Questions

Straight answers, from the same numbers as the calculator.

How this is calculated

Which fee matters most when a client pays from abroad?

Usually the currency conversion. Card rates are advertised and cluster within a point of each other, while conversion markups run from about 0.3% to 4% and are rarely shown next to the card rate. On a $5,000 payment that single layer can be worth more than the card fee itself.

Is it cheaper to be paid by card or by bank transfer?

By bank transfer into an account with local details, almost always. A transfer skips the card fee and the cross-border surcharge, so only the conversion is left. A card is worth its cost when it is the difference between being paid and not being paid, such as a one-off client who will not do a transfer.

Is Stripe or PayPal cheaper for international payments?

Stripe, in almost every cross-border case. PayPal charges a higher base rate and a 3–4% conversion markup against 1–2% at Stripe, and the two compound because the markup is applied after the percentage fee.

Which countries does the calculator cover?

Your clients can pay from any country on the map. Where you live can be the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or any of the 21 eurozone countries, because those are the regions where every provider publishes its full pricing. Clients in a country whose currency is not modelled are assumed to pay in US dollars (euros in Europe).

Where do the numbers come from?

From each provider's public pricing page, checked by hand on 2026-10-25. Every figure on the site is produced by the same function, which applies the fees in the order a real payment hits them. The methodology page lists what the model leaves out.
